Living in a Winter Wonderland
Hej, my name is Felix, I’m currently 18 Years old and I am living now for about 3 weeks on the white Horizon Farm.
First Something about me: After Graduating School this Summer I knew that I wanted to travel the world and gain unforgettable Experiences. When most of my friends dreamed about going far away and work on farms in Australia or teach children English or other subjects in South Africa, I was sure that I wanted to do something completely different.
I was searching on multiple Websites for inspiration when I finally found white Horizon which seemed to be perfect for me. It combined 3 Things I absolutely love:
Lovely Dogs, beautiful landscapes and Nature and a very peaceful and calm environment. After getting in some more information about the project, my decision was clear:
I will spend my next 3 Months in an unbelievable Winterwonderland.
So what can I say after 3 weeks? I could write down 20 pages of all the Experiences, Memories and Adventures I made so far but that would go beyond the scope.
So I would like to point out my 3 Highlights:
1. Icefishing
On a cold Wednesday me and 3 other Volunteers went to our neighbour Assar to help him Icefishing. I was able to drive a snowmobile for the very first time and I had so much fun doing that. The fishing was very nice as well. It was very interesting to see how Assar caught the fish and how these animals were able to survive under this very thick layer of ice. We ate the fish on the same day and it was the best and freshest fish I ever ate!!!
2.Snowshoe Hiking
Another awesome Memory was made on a snowshoe hike with another Volunteer. We both had one day off and she convinced me to go snowshoe hiking. Definitely something I didn’t regret at all. We hiked for about 4-5 hours and had a nice and cozy break under a tree after 2 hours. We had to make our own little trail and were both impressed by the beautiful snowy trees. We saw footprints of moose’s and reindeers and were flashed by the stunning sky.
3. Sunsets
The last point I want to mention are the incredible Sunsets here in Lappland. In my opinion some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. In December it gets dark quite early but u can see very intense und different colours. It starts with an orange/red sky which slowly turns into very intense blue. Definitely something I recommend everybody to see.
Ps: I haven’t seen the polar Lights yet but I’m optimistic to see them in the next couple weeks.
